Incontro Romano saw the light under the impulse of Blessed Alvaro del Portillo -first successor of Saint Josemaria Escrivá de Balaguer, founder of Opus Dei-. In 1990 Blessed Alvaro encouraged a group of professionals belonging to the home services to share their initiatives in order to amplify the beneficial impact of these and other person-oriented professions in our society. The idea was to work toward the teachings of Saint Josemaria: every single job has a dimension of service when done for the people to whom it is oriented.
From the beginning, Centro Elis Association –a non-governmental association approved by the Italian Government in 1965- offered its support to this initiative of Incontro Romano.
The international status of the annual congress has increased, and we now get participants coming from more than 50 countries: Germany, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, Colombia, Congo, Croatia, Ecuador, Slovakia, Spain, United States, Philippines, France, United Kingdom, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malta, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Czech Republic, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Trinidad & Tobago, Uganda, Uruguay, Venezuela.
